How to Claim Residency

Connect your address to one of Birmingham’s 99 neighborhood associations so you can vote and participate.

Why this step exists

The Citizen Participation Plan requires that residents who vote on neighborhood matters actually live in that neighborhood. Claiming residency is how the platform confirms you’re in the right place.

You’ll only need to do this once. After you’re approved, you can vote and participate in every association meeting and election going forward.

What you need

Your current home address in Birmingham. The platform matches the address to a neighborhood using the city’s official boundaries from the Birmingham Open Data Portal.

Your birthdate. The CPP requires participants to be at least 16 years old. Your birthdate is never shown publicly — it’s used only to confirm you meet the age requirement.

What happens next

After you submit, your NA admin gets a notification that a resident has claimed your address. They review and approve you as a voter — usually within a few days.

Once approved, the platform unlocks voting on your association’s decisions, comment threads, and event RSVPs. You’ll get an email when your approval lands.
