How Google sign-in works here
When you click “Continue with Google” on the sign-in or sign-up page, your browser takes you to Google. Google confirms it’s really you (using whatever protection you already have on that account — password, two-factor, passkey) and tells the platform your verified email address.
The platform never sees your Google password. We only get a confirmation from Google that the email belongs to you. That confirmation is what lets us create or open your platform account.
When to use Google instead of a platform password
If you already use a Gmail or Google Workspace email — and especially if you already protect it with two-factor authentication — Google sign-in is the simpler choice. One fewer password to remember, and you get Google’s account-security features automatically.
You can also mix and match: sign up with Google for now, and add a platform password later if you ever want to sign in without going through Google.
If Google sign-in fails
The most common reason is that Google’s confirmation of your email hasn’t completed yet. Open Gmail, verify your email if Google prompts you, then try the sign-in again.
If you see an error mentioning that the email is already registered with a password, that means a previous account exists. Sign in with the password instead, or use the password-reset flow.
